Question
I've currently sanded my pine cabinets in a 2 step process first with a 100 grit then with a 220 or from med to fine grit.
I cleaned off the dust and applied miniwax brand red mahogony stain. The problem is its not drying. I've read how others are staining cabinets and arent running into this issue.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Answer
Hi Rachelle
Nice to hear from you.
I had to read this question twice Rachelle to get the full picture..I guess its reading between the lines LOL.
OK..obviously your cabinets already had some type of finish..correct?
And you thought by sanding you could restain and all would be OK..correct?
It sounds like you don't have a problem with how the stain turned out but just that its not drying.
I can assure you that eventually this stain will dry.
You see Rachelle its just sitting on the top and not sinking into the wood so its taking a long time.
My only concern is that when you apply a top coat the stain will come off.
Did you wipe the stain back after applying as the label says?
Please get back to me on this, I'm very interested.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
