Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Water damaged veneer on dining room table

Question
Last Saturday I had friends for dinner and I had used small pumpkins with a cutout for Mums and I guess I cut too deep in the pumpkin and water leaked out and the veneer on two inserts in my table has swelled.  I tried the hot iron but nothing happened.  It didn't soften the glue.  I slit the veneer with a razor blade, I opened the inserts so I could work on one insert at a time, with the hot iron, but that still didn't help.  The table is not an antique, it's probably 25 years old.  Can you help me or even tell me where to find a local repair person who could repair this?  I live in Southern California.  Thanks for anything you can offer to help.  Gwen

Answer
Hi Gwen,  I am not in your area and can not help you with a particular name but you will need to look for a furniture restorer.  I don't believe that there is anything you can do to fix this yourself unless you have advanced skills.  It is likely that all of the veneer on the table top will need replacing and you will need to find a craftsman with a good reputation.  Thanks for the question.
