Question
I am painting one wall in my bedroom a sage green.  The beds will be against this wall.  I have a chest of drawers and a 9-drawer dresser with mirror.  I was wondering if I could paint these items or refinish them.  They are French Provincial in style and cherry finish now.

Answer
Hi Laurie
Nice to hear from you.
You could paint these pieces for absolute sure.
But Without seeing this furniture I cannot say if you would be able to strip and refinish it.
You see Laurie what you are describing to me sounds like it could be maple furniture with a colored lacquer cherry finish.
This stuff just does not refinish well for the do it yourselfer.
Its needs a finish applied like the existing one.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
