Question
Hi.  I need to take a round table apart for transport.  It has 3-part sliders (wooden) that expand it to accommodate the leaf.  What's the least destructive way to turn it into two half-circles for moving? There are screws on a small piece of wood on the outside edge of each slider but it doesn't look like they will get the job done.

Answer
Hi April
Nice to hear from you.
All of these sliders were applied with screws and removing them should allow you to get the top in two pieces.
Use caution (as you are aware).
The best way is to place a pad of a couple of blankets on the floor.
Turn the table upside down and remove any screws on one side only.
There will be several screws holding these sliders in place so really look closely.
It could be some are hidden when the sliders are closed. So open the table (in the upside down position on your blankets) and look closely.
But before doing that April I would remove the legs first if the table is to be moved.
No harm will be done by taking the table apart.
Good luck with this.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
