Question
we have a 50-60 year old dresser, not sure of the type of wood. We moved from the West coast to the East coast two years ago and over the last year this dresser's sides have warped towards the drawers making the drawers not glide correctly. Any advise on how to fix this warping to allow us to be able to keep this dresser?

Answer
Hi Mona
Nice to hear from you.
You won't fix the warping Mona but there is a lot of room between the drawer sides and the side of the dresser. There is no way these pieces could actually be touching...tell me it ain't so LOL.
It will be the drawer guides that are being pushed inward by the warped sides. This will make the drawers impossible to open correctly.
Remove a drawer. You will see these wooden guides I refer to on the left and right sides of the bottom of the drawer opening running from front to back.
They can be removed and narrowed down.
But check this out and get back to me.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
