Question
QUESTION: We recently purchased a new dining room set (hutch, table and server. Parts of the table surface and server and some chairs  developed a white film on the surface. It could be wiped off quite easily but would reappear after a day or so. The store then replaced
the table, server and chairs Now,after about two weeks the table and chairs are developing the film. We suspect the finish ?.Do you have any idea what this could be ? The hutch is OK. Thank You !

ANSWER: Hi Richard, this sounds odd to say the least. What type of furniture is this, and where does it come from? Did the film just wipe off with a dry cloth? Or did you have to go some to get it off? Greg

QUESTION: Thank You Greg ! We still have the problem with the new furniture. The original set developed this white film on server, some chairs and table. As mentioned the hutch is ok.The store replaced the server, table and chairs. Now this second table is developing the white film but the server is OK. The furniture is from Viet Nam and sold here (US East Coast) by a major furniture dealer. It is cherry. The film wipes off easily with a dry rag.My wife & I think it looks like a mildew or mold ?Thanks,Richard

Answer
I have no idea what could be causing this without knowing what they are finishing this furniture with. What did the store say? It's likely not mold or mildew, as it's really only prevalent in a damp environment. I doubt it's Cherry if it is Vietnamese...not sure how to advise you without more info...I think the store owes you the answer and the remedy.
