QUESTION: Hello,
This is a pretty simple question....I would like to know who I should contact to install wood balusters and a handrail on an indoor staircase.  I recently bought a home and the stairs leading to the 2nd floor do not have balusters or a handrail on one side (the other side is against a wall and there is a handrail there.)  I'm not sure who does this kind of work....a contractor, handyman, carpenter?  I want something simple and prefer not to spend too much $ on the job.  Thank you

ANSWER: One of the best sources for qualified contractors would be through you local home builder associated (HBA).   They keep a membership and referral log on carpenters with stair building skills, or stair builders themselves.   If you would let me know you city and zip code and can also help find a reference.

Three companies/installers that I know that cover Southern California are (From San Diego north to North LA County):
1.  Coffman Stair Works, Glenn Coffman - 818-886-7221 Does quite a bit of work in Orange County.  Has references in Huntington Beach, Newport....
2.  John Addleman - 619-247-3577  Has installed work in Anaheim, Santa Ana, San Diego, Yorba Linda.
3.  Hardwood Creations - 714-238-9078  Covers all of Southern California including San Diego, Orange and LA Counties.
