Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/removing table top

Question
Hello Eileen.
I have a single pedestal round oak table which pulls apart in the middle for an optional leafs (oval).  There looks to be three sets of sliders for the inserts.  I thought the table top can be removed from the base for moving, etc.  I have tried several sets of screws but cannot seem to find the right ones.  I am doing this myself so worried about removing the wrong screws and having it collapse on me!  Any suggestions on how to separate the top from the base?

Many thanks.
Donna

Answer
Hi Donna
Nice to hear from you.
I'm so glad you asked before trying this because the table certainly could have come down on your head LOL.
So Donna, to take these tables apart for moving we turn them over.
Put a couple of blankets on the floor and turn the table over on them.
You now have access to removing all the screws that are holding it together.
There will be a board or boards attached to the pedestal that are then screwed into the table top underside.
Very easy to locate these.
Get help if you can't do this on your own.
Good Luck
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
