Question
I have a maple table with no finish.  I removed all the paint, and just left it natural.  I set a candle on this table, and left for the summer, when I came home, the candle had melted somewhat on my table, now have a dark stain in the middle of the beautiful table.
How can I fix this?

Answer
Hi Lee
Nice to hear from you.
It would appear that the wax has absorbed into the wood.
The only good thing is that the table is maple and hopefully there was not a lot of absorption.
First try some mineral spirits.
Dip a fine steel wool pad in the spirits and rub with the grain.
I will keep my fingers crossed that this works.
If it fails you will have to resort to bleaching the table top.
Here is a site that explains about bleaching wood.
Lee please let me know how this goes.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
