Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Lacquer over particle

Question
I have an old bedroom set (1994)  it's lacquer over particle board would like to put something over the lacquer, strip it, paint it or reupholster.  What do you recommend.  I want to keep because it's cheap, but strong, and roomy (has lots of drawers)

Answer
Hi Mara,

I would only attempt to upholster this furniture if you know what you are doing. Or else you will risk hideous results.  The simplest thing would be to rough up the lacquer finish by running a medium grade sand paper over it all(you basically want to remove all the shine from the surface so the new paint will adhere properly.  Then apply an enamel paint in either a satin or semi-gloss finish. Good Luck with your project and thanks for the question.
