Question
I have an black stained Victorian table in rather poor condition which I would like to have refinished.  Is there any possibility that it can be refinished to a more modern color?  I would like to keep it in my living room but am not fond of the black finish.

Answer
Hi Deborah
Nice to hear from you.
Yes the black you dislike can be removed and a more modern color applied.
How the new color will look will depend on how badly the black has absorbed into the wood but a refinisher can also bleach out a lot of this old color.
But whatever shade it is it will be lovely with this finish removed.
Then the beauty of the wood will come through.
And worse case senario, the refinisher will need to apply a bit of colored lacquer. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
