Question
QUESTION: Food grease stain leaked through a paper plate onto solid cherry table and now there is a white hazey spot. How can I remove it?

ANSWER: Hi Denise, was it hot? It sounds like a heat mark....and is the table a modern one with a good finish?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: The food was a hot piece of chicken.
The table is one year old and was hand crafted with a light finish.

Answer
A white heat mark like this can be tricky to remove without damaging the finish further, if it is lacquer, there is an aerosol product called "Blush eraser", which is a blend of solvents specifically for removing blush from lacquer, which can happen when applying it too, if the humidity is high. The real problem is that often the whole surface will have to be rubbed out again after using this type of treatment, and that's not something for the novice. But the product might work, the key is to shake well, then apply a light even coat to the area in smooth overlapping strokes....enough to wet the area, but not so much that it pools....again, I hesitate to suggest you try this...it's something that an experienced finisher should really do....so calling in a pro is recommended....but here's a link to the product. I'm here, so post back if need be- regards- Greg
