Question
I just pruchased a 1949 singer & cabinet. The cabinet has a few pieces of the veneer missing & a couple of large pieces that are seperating. Would it be best to reglue the pieces I have & then clean & restain the whole pice or just remove the veneer altogether & restain

Hi Betty, I would repair the veneer and then refinish the cabinet. You'll find the veneer underneath will be an inferior veneer, with little or no grain to it, so I would try to save the original. You can use a pallet knife to work the glue in under the layers of veneer, you'll find several probably, and then clamp the surface flat till dry. If the missing pieces are fairly small, you can use a good wqood filler to fill the voids, sand smooth and then stain to match. Hope that helps- regards- Greg
