Question
Hello ...We just purchased a home built in 1948 It has charm and character...I have a honey oak shiney surface woodwork throughout ...and I do love it ....but MUST I keep that color throughout or may I use black furniture (wood,,,dark wood etc) I do enjoy contemporary  is there a rule of thumb here, Thank you so much..... and do have a pleasent day Donna

Answer
In my opinion if the woodwork in the house is all a nice warm color, then yes, darker wood furniture would look nice. I wouldn't go with "black" but maybe mahogany or dark cherry. Something with more of an espresso look. (dark browns but still visible grain) I sell mainly teak furniture, I would say that would look good, but its a bit light.
