Question
I received this piece already stripped down to the 6 springs in the seat.  The springs are still tied and in great shape. I'll be using oxblood leather to re-do the seat. My question is, what goes on over the springs and under the cotton batting I'll be using for the cushion?  And do I have the proper order here : springs, fabric covering springs, cotton batting then leather?

Answer
Hi,  this is the order of padding,

1. cotton batting over the springs to prevent squeeks.
2. burlap over the cotton batting - very tight.
3. extra firm or medium firm H.R. foam depending on the thickness.
you should calculate the thickness of the foam so the
seat height is 17 inches from the floor, then when you add the
cotton batting over that your total finished seat height should be
  18 inches from the floor.
4. cotton batting over the foam
5. muslin covering to hold everything in place and give the final
  shape of the seat.
6. cotton batting
7. leather

you can eliminate step 1. 4.  and  5.  however to do a perfect job leave those in.

I hope this helps.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.  Have fun, and when you are all done sit down and relax :-)
