Question
I am wanting to "modernize" our pickled oak table chairs and hutch by staining a black....have never done any type of furniture restoration and want to do right...IDEAS?

Answer
The first thing you have to do is sanding. You have to sand off the current stain/color that is on them. After you have sanded everything down, you are ready to stain. You can ask at the hardware store which stain to use.

The last stain I used was very easy to work with. I simply painted a light coat onto the wood. I noticed it wasn't quite the look I wanted, so I painted a second coat a little thicker. This time it came out just right.

Good luck.
