Question
HI Eileen:
Thank you for your time and the last answer.  I wiped on the minwax poly and I sanded between coats, and I did put about 4 coats on, the can stated to, it looks great except the fine scratches show through the final coat from sanding.  What can I do to get rid of those scratches any good fixes where I don't have to sand the entire table down to the finish...if I do have to what kind of paper and how hard will I have to sand?  Sorry I am so new at this but I am enjoying working with wood.  I really do appreciate your expert advies and time.

Cheryl :)

Answer
Hi Cheryl
If your willing to try another coat of poly..just a very light one, you could try using fine steel wool instead of the sandpaper which I think you used a bit too aggressivly or it was too coarse.
So its a going over with fine steel wool.
Wipe well, then a light coat of poly.
And don't let this discourage you. We all learn as we go.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
