Question
I have a dresser that has been stained a dark color.  I want to strip down to the lighter pine.  The only thing on this piece is stain, no poly or any other kind of sealer.  Do I just sand or should I use something else to remove the stain prior to sanding?

Thanks loads!

Answer
Hi Connie
Nice to hear from you.
Unfortunately its darn near impossible to remove a dark stain from pine without aggressive sanding or bleaching, and even that is not always sucessful.
Thats just the way with pine.
Here is a site that details bleaching wood.

Please read it carefully.
Good Luck

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
