Question
I have no previous experience but would like to revarnish an old oak table top that I have. There is no paint on the wood - just a stain with a polyurethane coat. But there are some thin cracks. What products do I need? And any advice on how to do it?

Answer
Hi Rhonda
Nice to hear from you.
The easy way to fix this is simply a good sanding and then a coat of wipe on poly.
Use 120 grit paper to sand.
The wipe on poly is so easy to use.
Its available at all hardware and paint stores.
Minwax is one brand.
And if the table still does not suit after this, get back to me for stripping and refinishing info.
Good Luck
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
