Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/sticky residue

Question
I have a distressed pine wooden table. I love it, but lately it has become so
sticky that it is hard to sit down at it. I used clorox wipes before (saw a
previous post to stop doing that). I was given this cream polish called OZ to
use on it when needed from the buyer and that is the only polish I have used.
Do I have to refinish it now? I have tried Murphys wood oil soap too, but that
didn't work either. If I have to refinish, what do I need to do exactly? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Pam
Nice to hear from you.
Before you think of refinishing, try cleaning the table with mineral spirits.
Use a fine steel wool pad as a scrubber dipped in the spirits and a clean rag to dry as you go.
Work with the grain of the wood.
If this fails get back to me but I sure hope you don't have to refinish.
Keeping my fingers crossed here.
Regards
Eileen
In fact get back to me the very next day after you try this.
I want to know if its exactly the same as it was or it fixed the problem....or half fixed the problem
Then we move to plan "B" LOL
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
