Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/varnish on dresser

Question
Ms. Eileen,

I left a plastic banner on my dresser and it stuck to the dresser top messing up the varnish.  Is there anything I can try to repair it short of re-varnishing.  Thanks.

Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry this has happened.
As a long shot you could try a product called furniture refinisher.
This will liquify the varnish (if its really that) and possibly allow you to smooth it out.
If there is plastic embedded in the varnish don't do this as it will melt the plastic and mix it with the finish.
An easy fix is a light sand and fresh varnish.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
