Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/how too

QuestionHi Mr. Ryan: I have a simple question but the problem has been very frustrating. My husband was shaking an iodine bottle and gor several spots all over the bathroom wood cabinets. It is a light wood so it sticks out like a sore thumb. I have gotten it off the walls with simple wash and repainting and that turned out very good but the wood is still the problem. Can you help me with hopefully just a simple trade secret that you have learnt over the years. Waiting to hear from you ASAP. Thanks for your time and patience in this manner. Marie
AnswerMost people will tell you that you have to bleach it and then refinish the wood.
I would try two other solutions first. The first is to take some vinegar and mix it with warm water. Equal parts. Use a cloth and apply the vinegar water to the stained area. Allow to soak for a few minutes and try to dab it out. If it seems like its working, re apply a few times.
Another option would be to find an oil or conditioner made for that type of wood. Try to apply the oil to the stain, and allow it to soak in again for a few minutes. Dab away at it to try to remove, and this time with the oil try using some "triple zero" steel wool which you can get at a hardware store.
If neither of these options work out for you, then I am afraid the worst has already happened, the Iodine has done what the bleach would do, and has permanently stained/bleached the wood. At this point you have no other option but to seek a professional to sand and refinish it.
Good Luck.
