Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Cedar Chest

Question
I just stripped an old cedar chest. It had several coats of a terrible varnish that had been on for years. I would like to keep that nice cedar look. What would you suggest that I coat it with? Thank you for your help.

Answer
Hi Micheal
Nice to hear from you.
I suggest several coats of tung oil applied with a rag.
I like the Circa brand in a low luster.
Very easy finish to maintain as the years go by as you simply apply another coat at intervals. Even every 6 months is fine.
Thats the beauty of this finish.
You will never have to strip this finish off.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
