AboutEileen Cronk Expertise Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.
Experience I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.

Question I am trying to strip the paint off of an old Cedar Hope CHest. In the process I found out that the paint is on a piece of thin panaling glued to the outside of the Hope Chest on the cedar. Some of the panaling is chipped, so I really can't save it. How do I get the glued panaling off besides chipping at it? Thanks.
Answer Hi Lori
Nice to hear from you.
It sounds to me like this is veneer glued to the chest not paneling.
You remove veneer by softening the glue under it.
Use a hot iron to do this. It melts the glue fast.
Use a 3 inch metal scraper to work under the veneer as the glue softens.
Lori I hope you will not be disappointed to see whats under the veneer. Its usually a mess and not a suitable surface to refinish.
Good Luck with this
Kind Regards
Eileen
