Question
My cabinet has pulled away from the back at the top and side. It leans forward slightly. How can I resecure the
cabinet?

Answer
Hi Ray
Nice to hear from you.
My goodness this is an emergency as far as I'm concerned.
Get everything out of the cupboard to relieve the weight.
Next you must locate the wall studs with a stud finder.
Once this is done, look in the cupboard.
There will be a board inside your cupboards where the screws go.
Look at the other cupboards and determine this.
Its very important the screws go in the proper place on the cupboards and also into a wall stud.
I just checked my own cupboards and they appear to have # 10 robertson head wood screws. I imagine they are at least 3 to 4 inches long.
I have one very heavy big cupboard that has lag bolts but thats pretty heavy duty.
Ray if I was there we could fix this in minutes.
Please get some help if you cannot do this yourself.
Its really hard to explain to someone who has never done this.
Very dangerous situation.
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
