Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/replacing metal balusters with different metal balusters

Question
I have a metal stair railing -- brass handrail, metal balusters.  I want to keep the brass handrail but replace the balusters with more updated, relatively simple wrought iron ones.  I talked to a welder, but he wanted to hand-make all the new balusters.  I guess he makes his money from making the balusters, but I've seen some wrought iron ones in catalogs that would look fine. My question is, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to buy already made balusters and use those?  And if so, would a welder be the person for the job?   I'm not sure who else to contact for this type of job.  I want someone who know what he's doing, but I don't know where to look.
Thank you for any suggestions!!

Answer
Judy,

It would be easier to buy already made balusters and have them welded to the handrail.  You might want to shop around, even making a call to the local Home Builder's Association for references on welders.  It would be to your benefit to call at least three welders, letting them know that you would be supplying the materials.   Usually you can do a search locally on stairs/metal, or metal fabrication.  But the first step would be to contact your local HBA.  I am certain there are companies out there that can and will work with you.
