Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Dansk bedroom set
Expert: Kirk Ryan - 8/11/2008
QuestionRecently I found a bedroom set at a consignment store marked Dansk. After much Internet time I found that this could mean either the company Dansk or just the fact that it is Danish in design. The king headboard is solid wood and curved (toward the wall)and has rods that can be pulled out on either side. There are frosted glass pieces with metal rings that fit on these rods to form shelves, I am assuming. The set also has a dresser and two end tables.
The set could be teak, I do not know. Are you familiar with this particular design and who could have produced it. The set is approximately $2000 and I do not want to make a mistake. I have a Frankl Rattan den set and a Willett Cherry Transitional dining set and am versed in both these lines but definitely a "newbie" when it comes to this set. Any help or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Veronica
AnswerYes, Dansk furniture is more well known as Dansk Mobler.
I own a Scandinavian Furniture store, we used to carry Dansk many years ago. They are still around, but it appears they are keeping things more simplistic these days. I have their website as www.dmk.dk
It sounds like the bedroom set you found is something they used to produce. I think its definitely worth it. You cannot find this quality much anymore. The price sounds very reasonable. Some of my top vendors here at the store would charge over $2000 for just a bed with nite tables. Some of the dressers with heavy amounts of solid teak go for around $1500-2000 alone. So for a new full set, with a good amount of solid teak, you would be looking at around $4000 dollars.
If you want to be sure the set is solid wood, the type of wood, and worth the price, I think your best bet is to send me some pictures. My email is Jackal4215@hotmail.com.
My family and I would be able to identify the wood and style type very easily. We have been in business since 1967. My website is www.ForminTeak.com if you are interested in seeing what we are about.
Hope this helps, best of luck.
