Question
I have double doors and is reasonably good condition for 25 years in place. A couple of years ago I paid a lot of money to strip the doors and have the doors sprayed with lacquer. I decided to take it on this time and hand sanded and adequately cleaned with a sticky cloth. When I applied the Minwax OAK STAIN it looked a great for a couple days. I then saw a residue on many areas of the door. I did this twice to see if possible the my first application may have been a problem with the old Minwax I used.
Please help?

Answer
Hi Ron
Nice to hear from you.
Oh gosh I wish you had asked before you started this.
The doors must be stripped with paint stripper before you stain to get a proper looking job.
But really you can still do this now.
Call it a learning experience and no harm done.
If you need directions just ask.

Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
