Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Poly brush - how to select

Question
Hi

I saw your reply to a question where you said getting a poly brush was well worth the $12, and I have had similar advice from another expert in this group.

Can you explain what a varnish/poly brush is and/or how to select a brush suitable for varnish/poly.

Generic terms would be better as I am in new zealand and we often dont have the brands mentioned on this site.

Thanks
Andy C

Answer
Hi Andy
Nice to hear from New Zealand.
Yes the proper brush is vital.
So go to your paint store.
Tell them you want an oil based brush for applying poly (don't need a brand name). This is called a natural bristle brush here in Canada and I imagine its the same there.
If he suggests one for 5 bucks go to another store LOL.
Seriously Andy any paint dept employee who knows his stuff can get you the correct brush.
A good brush will cost 12 to 15 dollars and last you many years with care.
Good Luck
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
