About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience
I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.

Subject: Restoring Kitchen Table

Question
We were given antique table but needs a lot of work. The top has a lot of scratches & several white water stains from glasses. So I tried to wipe them off with denatured alcohol and now I have a white film on top..Yes I made it worse. Should I just strip the whole top and sand or can I apply a restore-a-finish. How do I fix it? There are other things wrong with the table but I'll start out with this first. Thanks for you input.

Answer
Hi Heather
Nice to hear from you.
At this point there is absolutely nothing wrong with trying the restore a finish.
Nothing at all to lose.
Yes you may end up having to strip the surface but a table top is easy.
I am also including a great site that discusses fixing finishes.
Give this a look
