Question
I am refinishing a set of bedroom furniture (waterfall maple, circa 1945) .  The tall piece has a hanging space lined with cedar on one side, small drawers on the other.  How do I renew the cedar?  Do I sand it, treat it with something, ???

Answer
Hi Alene,

You can lightly sand your cedar to restore the cedar aroma.  There is also "cedar spray"(available all over the internet) which can be applied and will save you some work.  Combining the two will give you maximum benefit but either treatment by itself should be adequate to return the beautiful smell.  Cedar scent is a respiratory irritant and can bring on attacks in asthmatics so use precautions if you suffer from the condition, better yet have someone else do it.  If anyone in your home is an asthmatic I would definitely just stick with the light sanding. making sure to ventilate the room well during and for awhile after the sanding.  Thanks for the question and good luck with your project.
