Question
In very short, i accidentally got paint on my 20-year old oak cabinets here and there.  Worse yet, I didn't realize it for a day.  The paint was water based.  Any suggestions how to get off? Also, will i have to restain and polyurethane it?  I'm not very handy, obviously.  thank you so much.

Answer
Hi Joanne
Nice to hear from you.
Sorry this has happened but it should come off fine.
Use a clean rag dipped in a bit of mineral spirits (called varsol in Canada). I have actually even used the varsol to get waterbased paint off of carpet (after it dried too LOL).
This water based paint will not damage the finish in any way nor will the fix.
Then a nice polish after the fix.
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
