Question
My husband and I have just purchased unfinished cherry butcherblock countertops that we plan on putting around the kitchen sink.  Can you please provide any advice as to the best way to treat the wood to provide maximum coverage from water damage?

Hi Stephanie, I would look at WaterLox, a Tung oil finish...they have several products that would work for you, and a nicely laid out website. It's important to seal all the end grain and the bottom of the slabs too, especially the sink cutout before mounting the sink. At least three coats on those areas, with thorough drying between coats is advised.Any finish in this environment will have to be paid attention to, and maintained before it's allowed to show water spotting/discoloration. The beauty of this type of finish is that it can be cleaned and recoated easily. Hope that helps- post back if need be- Greg
