About Eileen Cronk
Expertise
Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience
I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.

Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks - dining table

Expert: Eileen Cronk - 10/24/2009

Question
I have an antique dining table (it's wood but I'm not sure what kind)that i am using as a kitchen table. I would love to leave it uncovered because the wood is really beautiful, however, i have three kids who need a place to do homework, projects, play games, etc.
Is there a product that I could use on it (something that dried like a sheet of glass or plexiglass would be great) that would protect it?

Answer
Hi Susan
Nice to hear from you.
It would be every mothers dream to have a kitchen table that was indestructable.
I had 3 kids and now 4 grandaughters. They all use the kitchen table as yours do LOL.
There is only one product we do it yourselfers can apply to get a durable finish and thats oil based poly. I have switched to using oil based poly for hardwood floors.
I feel its just more durable than regular poly.
It comes in high gloss.
I won't say it will last forever, it won't. But no finish will.
But enjoy your kids sitting around the kitchen table. There will come a day the table will be empty. Its a sad sight. It means we are getting old LOL
Great Question
Regards
Granny Eileen
