Question
Hi!
I bought a cherrywood coffee table from Ashley Furniture about 4 years ago. I don't know a lot about wood, so maybe it's even fake cherrywood...if there is such a thing?? Anyway, over the years it has been scratched and there are several dull spots. It drives me crazy. It's gotten worse since adding a child to the mix also!! I don't want to have a professional fix it because that costs too much. Any advice on the simplest way to fix/refinish it myself so it looks more like new; or to hide some of those ugly spots? I appreciate any help you can give me...thanks!

Hi Melanie, your table could be any number of woods that are finished to look like Cherry. Most likely it has a lacquer finish on it, and any restoraqtion to that finish would need to be done with lacquer, unless the finish is stripped off. Then you could refinish with a more user friendly finish like a wipe on urethane. What's your skill level??
