Question Hi,
We just made a shelf and used gray primer spray paint and then black satin spray paint to finish it. Parts of it came out rough, and others uneven. What is the best way to fix this? We really don't want to mess with spray paint anymore, and I was curious if regular paint would work on it in addition to what method I would need to use to make it last.
Answer Hello
The best way to fix this is to sand the piece and pay particular attention to the rough areas.
Always when we paint new wood we will get areas that are rough. Usually the edges.
Usually we sand after the primer or first coat has dried.
Then I like to sand after the second coat has dried.
Then apply a final coat.
Don't be discouraged. Its just that you have not completed the process for new wood.
So sand, and apply a final coat of black.
Regular paint and a brush are fine to use after spraying.
Just be sure the paint is the same as you applied.
By that I mean, if your black was waterbased spray, use waterbased brush on.
If it was oil based black spray, use oil based brush on.
This will give you a durable surface. Nothing else needs done.
Kind Regards
Eileen
