Question
I purchased a reproduction clock, in oak.  When I received the piece I find that it has this hideous brown, sprayed on finish.  I believe the clock was Chinese made.  I have tried my normal strippers - Stripeze & Tuf-Job, they barely make a dent in the finish. Do you a a name brand or different type of stripper that you could suggest, to remove this finish?  I would love to get it to the bare wood, stain and finish it properly, as it is a wonderful clock. Thanks, Max

Answer
Hi Max
Nice to hear from you.
You will need what is called an MC stripper.
Here is an example

Just be careful as there is no telling what is under the brown (likely colored lacquer), finish.
Get back if needed

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
