Question I think the kitchen cabinets of the house we just bought had never been cleaned. They are Aristokraft brand but I'm not certain how old, maybe 25 yrs.I used Murphys Oil Soap solution and didn't get far.I use some Murphys straight from the bottle, some Goo Gone and some dish detergent. I got most of the grease off, but the places where the cabinets were touched a lot; edges, under handles and pulls, are sticky. Small areas you understand, but yucky all the same.Any suggestions?
Thanks for your time and willingness to help out us poor DIYers!
Answer Hey Chris, you've gotta be a little careful about putting a whole bunch of different chemicals on a finish that's 25+years old....try some mineral spirits,(or you can buy Formby's cleaner at most Hardware stores...), and remove the pulls when cleaning the area....it is possible that the finish could be breaking down, if you push the edge of your fingernail into a sticky area, and it leaves a mark...and the mineral spirits doesn't remove the tackiness, then the finish may be damaged...Post back- Greg
