Question
Hello Greg, I recently had hardwood floors installed and because I previously had carpeting, I now have a 2 inch space at the bottom of 2 of my interior doors.  The doors are old (1.5 inch thick) attached to metal door jambs, so I thought it might be easier to fill in the bottom of the door rather than replacing the entire door.  The doors are painted, so I could use wood filler if there are any gaps between the door and the strip I add on.  What do you think?  Will this work?  Any suggestions?  Much appreciated, Clark K.

Hey Clark, sure you could add a piece, Use a router with a straight edge to trim the bottoms of the doors to make a really nice, straight edge to mate the new piece, that will eliminate almost all of any gaps, and glue and countersink some screws into the filler strip, then touch up with a plane, sander, etc. to make the seam disappear, spot prime and paint.......regards- Greg
