Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/round frame

Question
I want to make a round coffee table frame. I assume that it should be a multisided picture frame with interlaced layers of wood at the intersections that would be drilled and doweled and glued, and then finished round on the table router. If all of that is correct, how many straight sides should I start with for a maximum diameter of 18 inches using 2"x 2"stock. And where can I learn the setting up of a round jig for the router? Hmmm. Maybe I need to start with 2"x3" stock to get a finished two-inch width?

Answer
Hi Wilbur,

It's been a really long time since I made a table like this, so I don't want to give you any bad information. My best suggestion would be to find a copy of this book:
Tables (Projects Book) by Anthony Giudice and Anthony Guidice

http://www.amazon.com/Tables-Projects-Book-Anthony-Giudice/dp/1561583421/ref=sr_...

I am pretty sure the author goes over this type of construction in his book, and it will probably be more helpful than anything I can supply. You can even pick this up on Amazon right now fairly inexpensively.

Good luck, sorry I can't help more, but this construction is a little tricky, and I don't want to steer you the wrong way.
