Question
I was wanting to paint my furniture.  I have never done this before, so I decided not to refinish.  If I pick white can I then use color wash to go on top of the white?  Will it look like a washed on color?

Answer
Hi Andrea, could you please elaborate?

"use color wash to go on top of the white?  Will it look like a washed on color?"

Of course it would.... but there's a technique, (several actually), to getting these type of effects...I would pick a small piece to practice on BEFORE attempting to do your furniture. You'll need to develop a technique that will give you the look you're after, and there are many places to look for help in learning to paint furniture. The Library, Book stores, and the internet will all help, but you need to do some research, and find the effect you like and then learn to replicate it. This is not something that I can teach you here....post back if need be- Greg
