Question
The previous owner of our house put a lacquer over the nice oak kitchen cabinets. Although the cabinets are still in very good shape the high gloss dates the cabinets. I would like to refinish them with more of a low luster finish. my concern is making sure they have a nice rich even tone. Can you suggest the steps and products i should use to ensure I have a fantabulous finish?

Answer
Hi Lisa
Nice to hear from you.
The only solution that would get rid of the high gloss is sanding and a new coat of low sheen lacquer applied.
This is a bit of work but I think the result is worth it.
Like you I do not like high gloss on kitchen cabinets..or anything else LOL.
Good Luck

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
