Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/Rocking Antique Bed

Question
Is there a way to stop my "antique" wooden bed from rocking back and forth.  There are hooks that go into the headboard and foot board and that seems to be where it is tipping.

Answer
Hi Anita
Nice to hear from you.
This is a miserable problem. Its just from age.
The only solution that ever worked for me was to add some thin wooden shims at the point where the side rails meet the head and foot boards. This is the area that wobbles.
Nothing fancy needed and they won't show if placed correctly.
And they sure won't need to be very thick. Under 1/4 inch in thickness and maybe only 1/8 thick. But you will have to experiment a bit. Even start with using a popsicle stick.
Don't need to take anything apart. Just wedge one in from the bottom where the rail meets the head board.
Good Luck and great question
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
