Question
I have an oak dining room table that for 8 years had the leaf in. NOw I want to remove it to make the table smaller and it is stuck. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Marsha
Nice to hear from you.
Yes I have a suggestion. It involves a bit of brute force LOL.
Seriously this is not uncommon in a table that has not been opened in that long.
You must work underneath the table so I suggest you turn it over on some blankets so it does not get scratched during the process.
The idea is to gently force something thin between the leaf and the table top then use some back and forth motion.
Do this in various spots along the join.
This will release the leaf from the table.
Good Luck
Kind Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
