Question
We have new stairs installed. Oak treads and poplar risers and rails. Which do I finish first? Paint the poplar or sand & stain the oak?
I suggest doing the treads first and allowing to dry several days after the final coat. The reason is that it's easier to mask the treads being that they're horizontal. The treads will need more than stain....typically 3 coats or more of a Urethane clear coat.....whether oil or Acrylic.
