Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/replacing cabinet hinges

Question
I have face frame hinges on my kitchen cabinets and I took one of the old ones to the store with me and bought one that looks exactly the same in a different finish. The new hinges even fit the old screw holes, but when I replaced the old ones my cabinet doors now overlap and I don't think there is room for me to drill new wholes without the old ones showing. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Answer
Hi Emily while the geometry of the types of hinges can be quite different, even though they look essentially the same, are you sure the hinge can't be adjusted? Most all of these hinges have at least two adjustment screws that allow one to adjust two axis of movement...if it can't be adjusted to fit, then you'll have to find hinges that have the same exact properties, and that can be daunting without some kind of help. I would find someone at a kitchen cabinet dealer, or a GOOD hardware store that can help you. There are MANY hinge choices available vie the 'net, but again, you need to know exactly what to get, first, and I would definitely go that route instead of trying to redrill mounting holes.
