Cabinets, Furniture, Woodworks/scorch on laminate flooring

Question
QUESTION: My grandson set the heat lamp from the snake case on the laminate flooring at my daughter's house.  It scorched the floor.  Is it possible to repair this?  We are just thankful she smelled the burning before it started a fire.

ANSWER: Hi Barbara, unfortunately there isn't a way to repair a burn other than replacing that piece of floor. Some of these laminate floors snap together and float over the existing subfloor, and in that case you could possibly remove that piece and replace it. The surface veneers are rather thin so repairing these type of floors is really not possible. I too, am glad it didn't set the house on fire......

QUESTION: I stand corrected.  It is a wood floor, not laminate.  Thank you for your quick response. I will be interested to see if this makes a difference in your advice.

Answer
Well a burn is a burn, and it will depend on how deep it goes, but in the case of a solid floor, even to try to remove a burn will require replacing the board, and/or sanding the floor with a floor sander, and refinishing. A floating snap lock laminate floor can be taken up and a board replace. If the laminate floor is glued down, you're in trouble. A solid wood floor will be nailed down and cutting out and then fitting in a new piece is a skilled and difficult job.So, there is no easy fix I'm afraid.
