Question
Hi:
I have a black wood veneer coffee table with allot of tiny scratches on it. Is there any easy way to remove them without refinishing the entire table?
What would the refinishing process be?
Would it be easier to paint?
What would be the paint process be?
Thanks
Joe

Answer
Hi Joe, the table is probably lacquered, so you don't want to paint over that. Take some mineral spirits and wipe down the table. If the scratches disappear, then you could by a clear Satin lacquer aerosol and recoat the top. If the scratches don't disappear, then you could wet sand the table with some 600 grit sandpaper and then use a Black lacquer in an aerosol, followed by a clear. I would only caution you that if you're unfamiliar with this type of work, it might be wiser to call in a Pro, to at least evaluate it with you and give you an estimate.....lacquer is something that takes some experience to work with, especially when restoring an existing finish, and I wouldn't want you to ruin the top, as then it's a much bigger job.
