Question

drawer assembly plasti
I have 3 chest of drawers that are in great shape except for the plastic pieces
that are mounted (screwed in) to the framework/slide of the drawer and the
back of the drawer itself, so that the drawer can be removed and put back in
in a straight line.  They for a lack of a better term are like a 'glide'?  to keep
the drawer straight when it is pulled in and out.  Attached is a pic of the
plastic piece attached to the back of the drawer, the other piece is attached to
a metal glide inside the dresser.  I would like to know what they are called
and how do I go about getting replacements for the one that are crackede
beyond repair.    Thank you for your help!

Answer
Don,

It sounds like you have a center mount drawer slide, those were popular a while ago, and certainly are still used in less expensively made furniture. I sort of doubt that you're going to find the replacement part, that back plastic clip.  You're probably going to have to buy a whole new slide for the drawers that have the broken clips. The good news is - replacement slides like these aren't that expensive.

These slides are sized by their length, so when buying new ones, you'll need to measure the existing slide.  There are some national woodworking store chains (you might have one in your city) that might stock these slides. These stores include WoodCraft and Rockler.

Check out this page on Woodcraft's center mount slides: http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=1052

Here is Rockler's page: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21478

There's a chance yo might even find these at a big box hardware store in your area. They're sort of common, but like I said, not a very well regarded drawer slide.

If instead, you'd rather go with a solid wooden slide, check this out: http://www.vandykes.com/product/cb200015/69139  I've bought some replacement parts from this company, they are well stocked and very helpful, if you have questions about any particular drawer slide. Perhaps a call to them would solve everything.

I suspect your slide is made by a company called Knape and Vogt. The picture you sent looks like their old design. Here is their newer design: http://www.thehardwarehut.com/catalog-product.php?p_ref=1428

OK, I hope this helps. Write back if you need more help, or have more questions.
