Question
I have just painted an old buffet (looks great), but I want to keep the flat black finish and am not sure what polyurethane or polyacrylic will give me a flat finish; or should I use something else?  Thanks

Answer
Hi Sheri
Nice to hear from you.
If my memory serves me (it doesn't always LOL), you can get a water based poly in a matte finish. Ask at the paint store.
I know we used a matte poly on folk art projects and it was purchased in a quart can.
But I would stick with a water based poly.
You are right in thinking to apply something over the flat black paint as flat black does not stand up well.
Good question

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
